Epiphany - "Chalking the Door"

Our family has adopted the ancient practice of “Chalking the door” on the Feast of Epiphany (January 6th in the Western Church). It is a way to orient our lives towards hospitality at the beginning of the year, as well as to ask God’s blessing on our home.

If you’d like to try the practice, here’s a link to a liturgy for a 4-person household like ours. You can obviously adapt it to the size of your own:

CHALKING THE DOOR LITURGY

(The document is designed to be printed double sided, then cut in two so it is read front and back.)

As a group, stand near the main entrance to your home with a piece of chalk, and then read the liturgy together. May this practice become as meaningful for your household as it has for ours.
